Volunteer to help teach kids and families to fish. If you love sharing your passion for fishing with others, we've got a great volunteer opportunity for you! We need anglers in the St. Louis area to help kids and families learn to fish through our free Discover Nature - Fishing Program. The program's goal is to help beginners gain the skills and confidence to go fishing on their own. We need volunteers from April through September. Training starts in March. Classes occur several times a week on Saturday mornings and weekday evenings. Volunteers typically teach one class a week, but we welcome anyone able to give time twice per month. Program sites include Busch Conservation Area, Forest Park, Suson Park, and Bellfontaine Park. You can choose one site or volunteer at several. We offer volunteer training, and we keep class sizes small, so you can focus on teaching and coaching. A background check is required for successful applicants.

Garden of Eden at the Jewish Community Center

  • 12+

The Garden of Eden on the grounds of the Jewish Community Center provides food to the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry. Volunteers are needed to care for the garden. Tasks may include (but are not limited to) weeding, planting, checking for pest infestation, spreading mulch, shed organization, staking/tying plants, thinning or replanting plants, and watering. There may be times when you are asked to explain/show the garden to others. Tasks needing to be accomplished will be posted. On the days the food pantry is open you may be asked to pick, wash, and weigh/record the vegetables. You need not be an experienced gardener. We will show you what to do. Most tasks during the growing season are routine. We will attempt to maintain the garden during the winter (if it is a mild winter) by growing winter suitable vegetables. Thus this job is nearly year-round. No work is done on Shabbat (Saturday) or on Jewish holidays. We ask that you wear sensible closed-toe shoes, hat, sunblock, and bring water. Feel free to contact us if you have questions. Thank you!
