About the Community Service Committee

Our mission is to plan and provide interactive service opportunities for MICDS students and introduce how to make an impact on the community.

Each committee member must go through a competitive application process to represent their grade.

The committee created this website in 2019 in an effort to increase awareness of service opportunities for students and continue to develop a selfless community.

Helping Hands Drive

MICDS families donated new toys, games and books for children as part of Helping Hands, an annual MICDS school-wide holiday toy drive. The drive benefits FamilyForward, an organization that serves underprivileged children within the St. Louis community.

Coaches for Cancer

MICDS basketball coaches, players and fans come together each year to support the American Cancer Society. Together, their efforts have resulted in raising more than $200,000 to fight cancer.

Turkey Train

Our annual Thanksgiving community service project is the largest provider of frozen turkeys to the St. Louis Area Food Bank each year, collecting more than 7,500 pounds of turkey and 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food—enough to provide more than 8,000 Thanksgiving Day meals.

Pennies for Peru

Starting in 2007, MICDS held an annual collection for the Peruvian American Medical Society to help rebuild a medical clinic following an earthquake in Chincha, Peru, and subsequently, to purchase a dental x-ray machine and outfit its dental unit. MICDS students volunteer at the PAMS Clinic in Chincha through the MICDS Peru Service Learning Program. This program is still on hold since being cancelled by COVID in 2020, but we look forward to returning to Peru and our Pennies for Peru collection soon!
