Doorways

Ages: 16+

Since our founding as a hospice in 1988 to serve people dying alone and homeless, abandoned by families, DOORWAYS has evolved to offer six platforms of housing services and remains the only agency dedicated to HIV housing and supportive services. Serving over 3,000 people a year takes a team of dedicated board members, leadership, staff, interns, and volunteers. We can use help indoors and outdoors with data entry,  monitoring the front door, filing,  painting, gardening (raking, weeding, planting, mulching, trimming), cleaning, and plenty of other projects.

St. Patrick’s Center - Women’s Night Program dinner

Age: 14-17 with parent/guardian, 18+ independently

Each night, 40 women stay at St. Patrick Center as part of our Women’s Night Program. Volunteers (2-5 people) are needed to plan, prepare, and serve dinner each evening. Your group gets to choose the menu! You would be responsible for the cost of the meal. We ask that you do not bring any casserole dishes (rice, pasta, etc.) since this is what is served for other meals. You can prepare the meal offsite and drop it off or serve it yourself. You can also use our kitchen to prepare the meal.

St. Patrick Center

Age: 18+

Offers permanent housing to homeless individuals and families and provides additional support in the form of job training, employment placement, and behavioral health programs. St. Patrick Center is the largest provider of homeless services in Missouri, assisting more than 3,500 homeless people every year. The organization relies heavily on its network of volunteers who receive, sort, and distribute donated food and clothing, serve lunches, organize fundraising events, and work on administrative tasks. Shifts are flexible and it is also possible to volunteer from home.

Saint Louis Crisis Nursery

Age: 14+ with parent/guardian, 16+ independently

We work to ensure that every child can live in a safe, loving home in which they can thrive and reach their full potential. Every day, we strive to make our world a better place for our children so that they have the best possible start in life. Children’s Volunteers care for our kids by engaging them in the day’s activities, including playtime (arts & crafts, dress up, games, outside play), meal/snack time, quiet/nap time, rocking and feeding our babies, etc. Volunteers also assist with maintaining a welcoming, organized, and safe Nursery environment.

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis

Age: 16+

Gives families who live in substandard rental housing the opportunity to build and purchase their own homes. The help of volunteers is vital to keeping the project going. They assist the construction staff, organize supplies, photograph building activities, and work in the ReStore that resells donated building materials.

Ronald McDonald House Charities St. Louis

Age: 14+

Provides accommodation for families of seriously ill children in one of their three Ronald McDonald Houses and four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in pediatric hospitals. Since they first opened their doors in 1981, more than 40,000 families have used the service. If you join their team of volunteers, you’ll have the opportunity to welcome families to a Ronald McDonald House and help them settle, assist with maintenance tasks, or work at one of their special events or dinner auctions. Regular volunteers are asked to maintain a set schedule of weekly or biweekly three-hour shifts.
