Mental Illness Support for Teens

MIST (Mental Illness Support for Teenagers) is an initiative designed to end the stigma behind mental health issues by providing a student perspective on the topic. This initiative has over 12 chapters in over 5 different countries.

Some of our past projects have been: giving presentations to students both locally and internationally and interviewing mental health professionals.

We also have a newsletter, similar to a magazine, that contains student perspectives on various mental health topics and comes out every few months, as well as a podcast.

Our community service club will continue to work on these projects and host events to raise awareness of mental health issues in our own school community.

MIST's International Efforts

India & Singapore

We gave presentations to students in grades 9-12 in schools ranging from private schools to orphanages in Vijayawada and Singapore schools. This presentation taught students about the types of mental illnesses and receive treatment or help a friend who may be suffering from a mental illness. This had a tremendous impact on the students, many of whom had never heard of mental illness before. They said this presentation was life changing.

We are currently working to send a video that can be presented in schools in India about Mental Illness. This video covers everything from the types of mental illnesses, stigma, and how to receive treatment for a mental illness.

St. Louis

In St. Louis, our primary goal is to raise awareness of mental illness by hosting events and presentations by creating student run clubs in middle and high schools. These student run clubs will give presentations, organize events, raise funds for mental health organizations, and other activities to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. We are also looking for mental health organizations that would be interested in partnering with us.
