Sports Organizations

KEEN St. Louis

Age: 15+, 12+ with a parent/guardian

Volunteering for KEEN is fun and offers opportunities for occasional participation, regular involvement, and leadership.  Volunteers don't need any prior experience working with disabled individuals – KEEN provides training prior to each session.  Coaches don't need to be athletic, either.  Our athletes will love you just as you are!

KEEN’s programs are structured so that each volunteer is assigned one program participant, or “athlete.” A coach’s job is to help athletes take part in different sports activities and to have a good time. Below is the sign up process:

DASA provides extraordinary, inclusive year-round fitness and athletic opportunities for children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens, and injured service members and first responders who have primary physical, visual, and hearing disabilities.

Special Olympics

Ages: Requirements vary; check website for specific programs

Volunteers are the foundation of Special Olympics Missouri. We depend on thousands of volunteers to help coach, conduct events and serve on organizational and fundraising committees. The efforts of a volunteer provide opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, who, if given the chance, can participate and excel in sports and life.

SPENSA

Ages: 14+

The Special Needs Soccer Association, SPENSA, is a Not-for-Profit, St. Louis-based soccer program for young people with disabilities. This program is open to any boy or girl with a disability, ages 5-21. It is designed to bring the excitement and fun of playing soccer to players who traditionally have not had a place in the youth soccer system. Games are normally played at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The park is located at I-270 and Highway 44. We have numerous individuals, high school and college teams, select soccer club teams and other groups who have joined us to have fun on Saturday mornings. Hopefully, you or your group will be able to volunteer for one or more sessions. We need your help!

Challenger Baseball

Ages: 10+

Challenger Baseball is always looking for buddy volunteers. We need buddies (kids and young adults ages 10-25 who don’t have disabilities) to assist our players who have developmental disabilities as they play baseball. For example, buddies go with our players as they go around the bases and help them as they play in the field. If a player uses a wheelchair a buddy might help push their wheelchair around the base paths. But the most important thing a buddy can do is talk to our players and make friends.
