Five Acres Animal Shelter

Age: 13+

The animal shelter has many volunteer opportunities, including the much-needed daily cleaning and caring for furry guests, helping at fundraisers and mobile adoptions, answering the phone and staffing the gift shop. Volunteers ages 13-15 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers must be 16 years old to volunteer independently.

Metro East Humane Society

Age: 15+

All you need to do to get started as a volunteer is fill out a volunteer application and attend a volunteer orientation (held the 1st Sunday and 3rd Friday of every month). Opportunities include animal care support, adoption events, and special events. All volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Mid-American Horse Rescue

Age: 12+

Be a Volunteer with Mid-America Horse Rescue. This is a NO KILL facility. We care for horses that may have been poorly treated, horses that may be injured or horses that may have other issues that may make them unsafe and therefore unable to be a adopted into another career. As a result, we never put our volunteers into a dangerous position. Volunteer Opportunities include: General barn chores, sweeping, raking, cleaning area, cleaning stalls, feeding and watering, fundraising/event planning, helping prepare for clinics and events around the greater St Louis area.

Summer Camp Counselor for Humane Society

We have the PUUUURRFECT summer volunteer opportunity for you and your friends! Are you an enthusiastic animal lover (age 15-18) who likes kids and needs/wants to earn volunteer hours? You can be a summer camp counselor at the Humane Society of Missouri and teach children why and how to care about animals! Interested? Great! There are three things you need to do to get started: 1)Please complete our online camp counselor application at  and send it to JoEllyn Klepacki at the Humane Society of MO Education Department at  2)Please be sure to list the camps (weeklong and /or one-day camps) you are available for on the application. Here is a list of the camp times and descriptions:  3)Please put the mandatory orientation training date on your calendar and attend. Here you will meet all of the other teens who will be counselors this summer and find out about the details of this volunteer experience. The orientation is Tuesday, June 12th from 9am-Noon in our classroom on the lower level of HSMO Headquarters at 1201 Macklind Ave. You’re all set for a summer full of fun activities that benefit children and animals in our community! World Aquarium

Age: 12+

If you have an interest in biology, animals and the environment and a few hours to spare on a regular basis, consider joining our volunteer team. Volunteers at the World Aquarium work alongside our professional staff, interacting with the public, guiding students through exhibit realms, and maintaining exhibits. No experience is necessary other than a well honed smile. Children age 12 and up are eligible for our Volunteer program. Volunteers must come in for a regular shift of 4 hours. Regular attendance and 100% commitment is expected of all Volunteers. Due to our small staff, we can only accept highly motivated and dedicated applicants.
