Sustainable Futures Hosts World Bird Sanctuary Beautification

12 MICDS volunteers went on a trip to the World Bird Sanctuary for the Sustainable Futures Club. Everyone helped fill two vulture exhibits and the surrounding with soil for the birds to inhabit! After two hours of hard work shoveling, raking, and covering up the bottom of the exhibits, this was the final result:

Afterward, everyone had hot chocolate, apple cider, and were able to see all of the birds!

Why Volunteer at the World Bird Sanctuary?

“Volunteers play an integral role in the World Bird Sanctuary mission by helping to care for sick or injured birds in our wildlife hospital, working side by side with our animal husbandry staff, and inspiring the next generation of conservation leaders through our environmental education department. With a wide range of opportunities available, your skill set will be sure to make a difference! If you are a fun loving, enthusiastic, and hard working individual, we would love to welcome you into the team!” (World Bird Sanctuary).

About Sustainable Futures:

The goal of the Sustainable Futures Club is to help members of the MICDS community to live more sustainable lives. The club hopes to provide opportunities for students to take direct action on environmental issues by participating in service/volunteer opportunities and other efforts to raise awareness of sustainable alternatives in everyday activities. In addition, the club aims to partner with organizations, such as the Missouri Department of Conservation, to provide experiences in the outdoors that will increase members' appreciation for our local ecosystem and teach valuable outdoor skills.
